It’s always a pleasure to go to New York; I’ll be there til monday for a very exciting project – more on that later… Those who have my contact info, let’s grub.

This year’s lookbook forced me in there.

First and foremost, he hates blogs. It didn’t roll off the tongue as swiftly as I’d hope, when it came time to ask for some pictures of what most of us would consider a gold mine or a museum of sort. *sigh of relief when he said yes*. Upon entrance, one is quickly acquainted by a hand-painted “Brooklyn Basements” type across the window of the main entry point. A star spangled banner gives us a hint of what we are to expect: a collection (understatement) of the most iconic American street fashion rarities, from Nike’s to Danner boots, and RRL to Carhartt.

Tommy Rebel isn’t the typical collector, he knows more than you would expect, in fact, a 30 minute conversation that’s mostly one-sided is worthy of a 30 day lesson. He paints the big picture in 3 words (undisclosed information), but it’s one of those “you had to be there” instances. All I can say is that a stay in the Brooklyn Basement is much more than anyone can vouch for when visiting America’s melting pot.

“Dana Lauren Goldstein was born in Louisville, Kentucky but spent most of her life traveling and living in different cities. In the summer of 2007 she received her BFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design and returned to New York City where she spent a year interning and assisting fashion photographer Kenneth Cappello.

Dana’s work has been exhibited internationally and shown at the Pulse Art Fair through the Saatchi Gallery, Tim Barber/Tiny Vices, ITIWA, NOfound, Dazed Digital, aNYthing, and Puma. Her work has appeared in the pages of i-D, Dazed and Confused, Vice, Hamburger Eyes, Bad Day, WAD, Intersection, QVest, and Sup amongst others.

Dana currently resides in lower Manhattan where she is pursuing her personal work, a book which will be released later this year, and curating emerging local, national, and international artists and talent.”

I spent a good 15 minutes in the store, just conversing with Kenji, the guy has been backpacking the world scouring some of the most unexpectedly amazing vintage items (or bintage, in his thick Japanese accent, hehe). Aside from being a relic hunter, Mr Kawasaki is also a talented Textile designer, having even sold some of his denim patchwork quilt creations to brands such as J.Crew.

So if you ever go near the neighborhood, go drop a word, he is one easy going guy.
