A Closer Look : Vans OTW Larkin

In efforts to stray away from Core and Classics, Vans created the much anticipated OTW line along side some pretty impressive names, notably Eric Elms, Mr.Cartoon & photographer Dimitri Coste. One recurring theme in the collection seems to be timelessness as each model seems to have a somewhat minimal silhouette but still sporting enough intricate subtleties to set them apart. The larkin, much like the previously featured Versa’s, take their form from High-End italian sneakers. Not to be overlooked are the herringbone canvas upper, soft premium leather captoe & a clean looking cupsole. Again, big thanks to Alex of Vans for making this come through!

Marcus Troy x Ronnie Fieg : Sebago Docksides

I was commissioned by Marcus to take some official/unofficial shots of his latest collaborative efforts with Ronnie Fieg and Sebago. The Nexus Project is basically a strong roster of five influential bloggers brought together by RF; Jake Davis, Marcus Troy, Street Etiquette, William Yan, Greg Weinstein & Ronnie himself. After spending a week in the Dominican Republic at the Sebago HQ, the collective have each designed a pair of shoes and a pair of boots which are set to release this Summer 2010 and Fall 2010. Shot by myself, here is a first look at the Nexus Project. MT uses, as per usual, some pretty interesting materials…Buffalo leather upper with a first ever red brick sole from Sebago. Looks pretty nice next to the vintage Parker fountain pen and Armani shades from the 80′s.

Built by Brakeless

When entering, one is charmed by the plywood panels hugging the walls & floors of the modest space, a barber’s chair reminiscent of the 50′s, and not to mention an array of hard to find bicycle parts! And despite the recent surge of newly opened shops, most city riders can vouch for Sylvester‘s originator status. I’m glad to say that I had my bike built there 2 years ago, by one of the nicest fella in town. I passed by this week to check out Maura‘s next ride…just gonna put it out there and say that I am extremely jealous; cinelli gazetta…vintage san marco saddle…

Check out some of my favorite of his creations: here, here, here & here.

Closer Look : Vans VERSA

This is a big step up from the Metallic chukka lows by Alex Olson. On a closer look, the Versa features BoardFeel XD technology, high-grade EVA mid-sole & a nice oiled Suede upper; the best part? Sock liner & insole. The Versa is a balanced blend of fashion & skate, in fact it takes inspiration from High-End Italian footwear: note the nice slim toe cap and tonal piping.

“The vision of the Versa was to create a product that was ideal for the next generation of hardcore skateboarders who want a product that can perform and also have a more refined sense of aesthetic style. Alex Olson was a key contributor to this project and explained that he wanted a product that would function perfectly, look good on and off his board, and stand apart from the standard skate shoe design formula. We were really inspired by this idea and set out to blend high performance and high-end style—the result is a very versatile shoe. The upper is based on simple, sophisticated luxury sneakers, while the outsole is a clean, refined version of our classic look. The stylish performance bottom unit delivers the grip and cushioning required by the most demanding professional skaters.”

Big thanks to Alex Forbes of Vans for sending these over!

Morning Practice

In 1923, Albert Messmer changed the world by creating the first Football Cleat in response to a muddy pitch on a rainy day. Hummel, which is the direct translation of a bumble bee, is inspired by the agile movement that a bumble bee can perform in the air. The cleat created by hummel allowed players to have the much needed traction. Now, almost ninety years later, the Danish brand makes their debut in North America, and we, The Ringleaders are proud to be sponsored by such a storied company. Our full kits finally came out of the print shop so we will be sporting this for the 2010 Campaign. No Pity on the pitch.

Cheers to everyone who came out for an awesome practice this morning.
