ON & BEYOND

Most have seen or heard of the collaborative efforts, but this post isn’t about that, well not really… While the cross-collaboration is something to be excited about, let’s talk about this lookbook photographed and designed by Peter Poopat. What is seemingly made of an old book on cathedrals, the lookbook, consists of photographs from the collection, inserted like a scrapbook; all held together with some tape and a wide tie-ribbon. The pictures: crisp, modern and minimalist, quickly catches the eye when overlapping the aged papyrus. This is organized confusion at its best.

Young Healers is a publishing venture that focuses on emerging photographers through print zines. The objective is to publish monthly issues that coincide with a gallery launch for the corresponding edition. Each issue will feature the work of an up-and-coming photographer, some shooting specifically for the project, others selecting photos from their existing portfolio.

“Dana Lauren Goldstein was born in Louisville, Kentucky but spent most of her life traveling and living in different cities. In the summer of 2007 she received her BFA in photography from the Savannah College of Art and Design and returned to New York City where she spent a year interning and assisting fashion photographer Kenneth Cappello.

Dana’s work has been exhibited internationally and shown at the Pulse Art Fair through the Saatchi Gallery, Tim Barber/Tiny Vices, ITIWA, NOfound, Dazed Digital, aNYthing, and Puma. Her work has appeared in the pages of i-D, Dazed and Confused, Vice, Hamburger Eyes, Bad Day, WAD, Intersection, QVest, and Sup amongst others.

Dana currently resides in lower Manhattan where she is pursuing her personal work, a book which will be released later this year, and curating emerging local, national, and international artists and talent.”

A year and a half ago, I would have laughed if you asked for my thoughts on heather…not the lady name, but the salt and pepper yarn that most of us associate to the sweaty, fat gym teacher in high school (with a whistle around his neck…important detail). Now, I’ve noticed that 95% of all the knits and layering pieces I’ve purchased in the passed year are in heather, all types of them, oatmeal heather, bark heather, cement heather…I can’t really put my hands on why this fascination has taken over my senses, but I can recall a specific season by Nom De Guerre, where they had 2 amazing pieces in heather: a high collar cardigan and a crewneck. I believe that was the turning point where I’ve forgotten about the vile gym teacher & strictly remember that NDG season as being one of their best.

ps: Lawrence. I’m still not sold on sweatpants, but I won’t cease to believe…

I had posted about these a couple of months ago, I’ve been a big fan of Lunars since it’s inception in 08. While the aesthetic features of the thick sole had to grow on me, the technological factor was impressive enough to win me over. They’ve finally released the black/white and I’ve finally gotten my hands on them. They are part of the World Cup Tier Zero collection, now Available at OFF THE HOOK & other select Tier Zero accounts.

Here is a better look at the Abarth Moc-Folk released by Visvim… I’m still unsure of all the other new models they have released, notably disappointed in the JCDriver silhouette, which falls in the same category of wackness as the Christo’s. But the Abarth’s are starting to grow on me, I even like the striped-detailing on the back heel.

Outerwear seems to always be the underdog in the Japanese brand’s collection, Visvim has been producing some of the best simplistic yet technical jackets on the market for quite a while now….

I found these photos I took at Reed Space from my NY trip. Thought I’d post them, not like most of you haven’t seen or been before, but I personally love seeing Shop Photos; the art of merchandising isn’t something to be overlooked. The people at Reed Space have a knack for making garments on a shelf look…better, for lack of a better description.

No homo, I’ve been meaning to take some shots of my buddy Justin. He has the right look, I threw some clothes on him, quick styling, and the photos came out pretty nice.

A grand sense of accomplishment is the feeling I get when my shirt goes from unpressed, to being pret-a-porter. As this video clearly illustrates, 3 minutes, is the required amount of time to achieve that feeling…

Just watch and you will see what I mean, it is simply beautiful.
