WANT Les essentiels de la vie

I’m currently working on a small project with some friends with Dexter and Byron from WANT. Aside from giving us a hands on experience with some of their upcoming offerings, notably a collab with JCREW, the twin brothers made us feel right at home with a few tips and pointers on how to grow as young entrepreneurs. I’ll end it at that, but stay tuned for what we have in store…soon enough! Big thanks to Byron and Dexter for lending us their time!

Hebdomadaire

I’m gonna write this post like a series of twits. I just got back from soccer (football), I’m tired, so no structured text for tonight…just some thoughts of the week

Started a new pair of Raw for the next year, they’re Stussy deluxe: made in japan, let’s see how they hold up. So far so good, the denim is pretty rigid, it makes me sleep well at night. I switched my luggage system over to porter: new wallet, new daily shoulder bag. Got some reading material. Love issue 1 of Inventory, i’ll be subscribed. Supreme vol.5 was kind of a fail, JA saved the issue. Only upside is the translated text. Clark (murakami cover) is damn good.

Introduction: Oakley Elite Collection

Mark had the courtesy of inviting the crew and I to a private first-hand viewing of Oakley`s bread and butter. ”A Pinnacle in Technology and Design” (the collections subtitle) might have slightly been an understatement as my eyes and hands were rooted by the ensemble of gems. As Mark explained, Oakley, much like car companies, have a need to push the envelope even though the revenue may not justify the cost of their prototypical projects. One prototype might inspire another. Look at it this way; here I am documenting this revolution in technologies for the e-world to see…so at the end of the day it’s marketing. And the final result…is probably very fructifying.

”Sometimes we do it just because we can.” may sound a little pretentious…but if I could, I probably would.

The main attraction of the night was a C-Six made of pure carbon fibre…a material that is thinner than human hair yet stronger than high tensile steel. Evidently, these aren’t made for the everyday cool guy looking for a pair of frogskins…they retail for an impressive sum of 4500$ CAD.

Nike Sportswear V65

While it is no secret that the classic Varsity Jacket has gone full fashion cycle by resurfacing for this early holiday (paralleled by the resurrection of cargo pants), consumers like myself are still looking for a well-tailored and slim fitted varsity as opposed to the wide arm opening ones we’ve been used to seeing at college football games. Military bottoms are a whole other quandary, so I’ll save that rant for next time. Now, for those who are still stuck in the middle, bewildered by their love for military attire yet still looking to jump on the varsity sail before it sets, Nike Sportswear have come up with an answer called the V65 by combining aesthetic features from the Varsity with technical assortments from the M65. The jacket is composed of an m65-esque melton body featuring four frontal pockets and a zippered collar which extends to white leather varsity sleeves. This hybrid coat is now available @ Honeyee for approx. $560

Porter Deluxe Wallets

Best known for their technical practicality, Japan’s Yoshida & Co have come out with a new wallet part of the Porter Deluxe line. The wallets feature two openings at opposing ends giving an 80′s like appeal to the simplistic functionality that defines Porter’s renowned aesthetic. The wallet & more will soon be available at OFFTHEHOOK in Montreal for approximately $100CND

EDWIN – zine issue 1

I remember telling myself how dope the Edwin fall lookbook was this year…And through some thorough searching/researching, I found the photographer (Ben Robinson) and a little piece of gold most people might not know about which I hope it’s something new to your ears…They’ve released a zine that comes with ever purchase of edwins that is also available at all edwin retailers. For the non denim freaks, Edwin comes a LONG way…in fact, they’re considered one of the innovators in denim along side Levi’s. Yup. Dating back to 1947, Edwin is the godfather of Japanese denim way before names like Samurai, Flathead, Evisu, IronHeart, and others got to see the likes of denimology. The zine features a little bit of their history as well as interviews with people, retailers, fashion icons that may have influenced the 50 year old company. With a list that includes Margaret Howell, Bad Brains, Gainsbourg…etc, it is very indicative of how effectively Edwin has graced pages of the denim archives. Here’s a look at some spreads of the zine.

Gallery 1950 x Kaneko Optical Glasses

I am described as highly myopic at -6.00 diopters, so I’ll allow myself to say that I needed glasses, not like the guys walking into stores asking for “hipster clear lense black frame wayfarers”. Not much of a connaisseur, but in the month of searching for a new pair, Needles, Tai Hachiro, Persol, Moscot were words in my daily vocabulary…which did make me feel like a dandy at times hahaha.  I ended up taking an easy way out in hopes of never encountering a frame fanatic who would let me know how much I didn’t know, so I picked up some Ralph Lauren’s. But When I saw these Kaneko’s, it was a little repenting to think of my RL’s…

Available at G1950 for 18,900¥ (200 USD)

Phil and the Madbury

I don’t know what is forbidden to say and what is considered healthy promoting, so I’ll just let Phil do the talking and let myself do the photo taking…He recently did a short interview with TONE regarding his new project that I’m proudly going to be part of…Madbury Club is coming, just wait.
